Today, I’m visiting Taman Bacaan Pelangi’s newly renovated library on Papagarang Island with a bunch of our volunteers.
From Labuan Bajo, it takes around 1.5 hour to reach Papagarang Island. The island is inhabited and the village is called, of course, Papagarang Village :D. There is only one elementary school here on the island and Taman Bacaan Pelangi has collaborated with the school, in which, we provide them with a library that filled with over 1,500 children’s story books, train the teachers and school principal on library management system and reading activities that can be done in the library, and many more.
This tiny village has an amazingly crystal clear water. Kids love to swim and jump off from the jetty. If I lived here, of course I would do the same. Right? 😉 Check out the water! Doesn’t it calling you to swim? ;D
One of the teachers is implementing the Read A Loud technique that she learned from the workshop 🙂
And this is the type of their classroom. The walls are made of wood and the floors are made of dirt.
And.. tadaaa… here’s the Taman Bacaan Pelangi’s newly renovated library on the island! Woohooo! Isn’t it cute? Part of the renovation’s fund was donated by the Jakarta Players. Thank you, Jakarta Players! Now the kids on the island are even happier because they have a cozy library that they can come every day! 🙂 Yeayyy!!
