In 2009, I founded a non-profit organization, named Taman Bacaan Pelangi [Rainbow Reading Gardens]. The organization focuses on establishing children’s libraries in remote areas of Eastern Indonesia.
To date, TBP has established 42 libraries across 15 islands in Eastern Indonesia. From Flores, including the small islands in and around the Komodo National Park, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sulawesi, Timor, Alor, Banda Neira (Spice Islands), Bacan Island in South Halmahera, and Papua.
Why did I create Taman Bacaan Pelangi?
Because I believe education one of the essential keys for a country to be developed. And I also think every kid has the right to have access to books. But unfortunately, those who live in remote areas in Eastern Indonesia, access to books is a luxury.
I cannot imagine my childhood without books. So, seeing these kids who are never see any colorful children story books, it really breaks my heart.
I want them to enjoy reading and eventually develop a habit of reading. I want them to fall in love with books, because I believe books will inspire them to dream big!
I welcome all of you to join me in doing this good cause together. Let’s provide more books to the children who live in remote areas in Eastern Indonesia and let’s nurture the love of reading in them! I believe, together we can make a difference!
